The mythos behind the name... (cont'd)
Hiron Kentavros, unlike the rest of the Centaurs, bred a deep love for the human race. His ultimate display of that love was the sacrifice of his own life when, injured by a poisoned arrow, he agreed to exchange his own immortality for the life of the imprisoned Prometheus, the mortal who stole fire from the Gods for the benefit of the humans.
The location of Hiron’s cave, his home and study, while mentioned in ancient texts and documents has yet to be verified but is believed to be somewhere in the forests of Pelion. Not far from the hotel lies a cave which, while inaccessible for its most part, does hold great geological interest as far behind its semi-blocked entrance one can hear running water. We like to believe that this was once Hiron’s cave, and that’s where the name of the hotel comes from, but we are not absolutely sure. Maybe during your hikes around Pelion you will come across the real cave of Hiron yourself!
